From the very start, Regnery has been a major force within the conservative movement. In our early years, Regnery helped establish and sustain the postwar conservative intellectual movement in America, publishing such authors as Russell Kirk (The Conservative Mind), William F. Buckley Jr. (God and Man at Yale), Whittaker Chambers (Witness), and many other giants of modern American conservatism. After lighting a political firestorm in academia with Buckley’s God and Man at Yale in 1951, Henry started his own line of quality paperback classics called Regnery Gateway. The Gateway series ultimately grew to more than 200 titles, and included authors ranging from St. Augustine to Karl Marx, from Ambrose Bierce to the Japanese novelist Natsume Soseki, from Boethius to Carl von Clausewitz.
In 1993, Regnery Publishing became part of Eagle Publishing. Since then, Regnery has led the resurgence of conservative publishing in America. Our list of authors reads like a “who’s who” of conservative thought and action, including Ann Coulter, Steve Forbes, David Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, Dinesh D’Souza, Newt Gingrich, Mark Steyn, Mark Levin, Ed Klein, David Horowitz, Laura Ingraham, Mark Skousen, Donald Trump, and many more. For the past 15 years, Regnery has boasted one of the best batting averages in the business–placing more than fifty books on the New York Times bestseller list, including nine books at #1.
Called “small but mighty” by the Wall Street Journal, Regnery Publishing, Inc. is now considered by many to be the hottest independent book publisher in the country. Some have said that without the books published by Regnery, the conservative movement would look considerably different than it does today.
The list of Regnery books having significant impact is too lengthy to include in one place, but it is worthwhile to mention just a few:
In 2012, the hottest political book in the country was once again a Regnery blockbuster – The Amateur, by veteran author and journalist Ed Klein. The book dominated virtually every bestseller list in the country, including four weeks at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list, and another eight weeks in the top five. Lauded by everyone from Dick Cheney to Rupert Murdoch (who tweeted: “Long, long flight to LA read The Amateur (Bill Clinton’s word) by Ed Klein. Every voter should read.”), The Amateur is the latest Regnery book to help drive the national debate.
History is full of heroes and villains, stories and back stories. But too often, only one side of the story reaches the public. That’s why, in 2011, Regnery Publishing proudly launched a new imprint: Regnery History.
Following the Regnery tradition of challenging the status quo, Regnery History brings new light to old subjects and introduces stories that deserve attention, but may have been ignored or even covered up in the past. Our offerings include riveting untold tales from the American Founding, the Civil War, World War II, and the Cold War – mixed in with a fascinating array of biographies.
Regnery Kids is Regnery’s newest imprint, publishing delightful and educational children’s books, including the New York Times bestselling series of Ellis the Elephant picture books by Callista Gingrich. Regnery Kids books are patriotic, non-partisan, entertaining, funny and brilliantly written and illustrated by award-winning authors and artists. From weight-loss expert Jenny Craig to music star Jimmy Osmond to Janice Dean “the Weather Machine”, our books are designed to teach kids context and character in a heart-warming way. Another exciting new venture in the children’s category is Regnery’s new series of picture books on history and civics called Little Patriot Press. Featuring Woodrow the White House Mouse, these colorful and educational books teach youngsters about the three branches of government, the Declaration of Independence, even presidential pets! We call these books “a mice way to learn about government.”
